Keonjhar: Authorities of Orissa School of Mining Engineering (OSME), Keonjhar have ordered imposition of a fine of Rs 1,000 each on 82 students of the 3rd year residing in Khandadhar hostel for allegedly ragging 2nd year students.
OSME authorities have further ordered that these students will be barred from availing of books from the college library during the 5th and final semesters.
OSME authorities took action after some 2nd year students complained to the Principal in writing about ragging by their seniors studying in the 3rd year.
According to reports, on the night of November 18 (last Friday) senior boarders of Khandadhar Boys’ Hostel asked junior students to entertain them. While the junior students refused to comply, the senior students allegedly threatened them and forced them to dance and sing.
Following a written complaint by the junior students on this account to the Principal, a committee of OSME conducted an inquiry.
On the basis of the committee’s findings and report, a fine of Rs 1,000 each was imposed on 82 third-year students. Further, these students have given an undertaking to the college authorities not to indulge in similar activities in the future.
The college authorities have warned them that they will be expelled from the college if they repeat similar activities.
