Bhubaneswar: The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has stepped up action against individuals found illegally stockpiling LPG cylinders across the state.
According to the latest data released by the department on Wednesday, enforcement teams conducted inspections at 3809 places. During these drives, a total of 8,368 gas cylinders were seized.
The department has registered 46 FIRs and initiated 495 cases under the Essential Commodities Act. Nine persons have so far been arrested in connection with the illegal storage of cylinders.
Officials said the drive aims to curb black-marketing and ensure uninterrupted supply of LPG to genuine consumers. The department has appealed to the public to report any suspicious stockpiling of cylinders to the authorities.
