Academic Publication Celebrates Pride Month With Landmark Book- “Media And Marginalized Voices: Women And LGBTQIA+ Community”

Bhubaneswar: As the world commemorates Pride Month, a significant academic publication, “Media and Marginalized Voices: Women and LGBTQIA+ Community,” edited by Dr. V. Vijay Kumar and Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Sahoo, Professors from the School of Communications at XIM University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, has been hailed as a vital contribution to the global dialogue on inclusivity, gender equality, and media justice.

Published by the renowned academic house Peter Lang International Academic Publisher and Scopus-indexed for scholarly reach, the book is a significant addition to interdisciplinary research in media, communication, and gender studies. The volume arrives at a crucial time, intersecting with both India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and broader global academic movements toward diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB).

The book directly supports NEP’s emphasis on multi-disciplinary, ethical citizenship, critical thinking, and social consciousness, making it essential for university curricula and higher education pedagogy across disciplines. Dr. Kumar and Dr. Sahoo lead a diverse range of scholars in interrogating the narratives around women and LGBTQIA+ identities in traditional and digital media.

The volume is divided into two parts: “Women, Media, and Discourse” and “LGBTQIA+ Community and Media Representation.” It features real-life case studies, critical discourse analyses, and cultural reflections, each chapter resonating with Pride Month’s ideals of dignity, representation, and justice.

The editors emphasize that the underrepresentation and misrepresentation of women and LGBTQIA+ persons are “not static but a dynamic, recurring, and continuous process,” magnified by the media’s complicity in reinforcing stereotypes. The book challenges this status quo by amplifying voices from across India, Sri Lanka, and Africa, offering global perspectives with localized insights.

This scholarly intervention is not only a valuable resource for academics but also a toolkit for transformation, useful for media practitioners, civil society actors, and policy influencers alike. As higher education institutions plan their Pride Month engagements, this Scopus-indexed volume is an essential addition to their libraries, classrooms, and conversations.
