Bhubaneswar: A special police team from Kendrapara arrested the boyfriend of the Pattamundai College student who allegedly died by setting herself ablaze three days back.
According to sources, the accused Pramod Behera was taken into custody by the police and is being brought back to Odisha from Chennai for further investigation. Police have registered a case against Behera for allegedly blackmailing the victim.
According to sources, the victim’s family members had lodged a complaint against Behera, accusing him of threatening and blackmailing their daughter.
According to allegations levelled by the victim’s father, the 20-year-old victim had been facing relentless blackmail from a youth who had been threatening to circulate her photos and videos. Despite her repeated pleas, the police did not take any action, and the ASI allegedly advised her to block the youth’s phone number. A formal complaint regarding this issue was lodged at the local police station six months ago.
A forensic team will visit the victim’s village, Kathiapada, today to conduct an investigation in the presence of the Kendrapara Superintendent of Police.
The team will collect evidence and examine the scene of the incident to unravel the mystery behind the girl’s death.
Meanwhile, police sources revealed that the forensic examination of the victim’s mobile phone will reveal crucial information about the case. The examination will help determine if the victim’s boyfriend had sent any threatening messages or photos that could have led to her death. Investigating the victim’s mobile phone and tracking the boyfriend’s phone could help uncover more details about the incident.
It is learnt that the victim’s last rites were performed yesterday after a post-mortem at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
