Adjournment Continues: Odisha Assembly Stalled For 5th Day Over Reservation Row

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly was adjourned for the fifth consecutive day on Saturday due to a ruckus by opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and BJD members over the reservation issue.

Despite repeated attempts by the Speaker to maintain the decorum of the House, the House remained stalled, leading to an adjournment till 4 pm.

As per reports, the Odisha Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes during Zero Hour as BJD and Congress MLAs created an uproar and hurled leaflets in protest against the government’s handling of the reservation issue.  The opposition members, demanding a discussion on the matter, shouted slogans and disrupted the House proceedings. That apart, two BJD members were allegedly seen climbing onto the podium and disrupting proceedings.

The commotion forced the Speaker to adjourn the House, even as the Opposition continued to press for a debate on the issue.

The BJP, meanwhile, condemned the behaviour of the BJD MLAs, accusing them of misbehaving with the Speaker and disrupting the Assembly’s functioning. The party demanded an apology from the Opposition for their actions, terming it as unprecedented and unacceptable.

The BJP also accused the Opposition of politicizing the reservation issue for its own gain.
