Malkangiri: Odisha DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi who was on a visit here on Monday discussed the Maoist situation and peaceful holding of free and fair elections with the SPs Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts (undivided Koraput district).
“We not only discussed the Maoist situation but various other issues. Holding of peaceful free and fair elections was discussed. The SPs informed us about their preparations, preventive steps taken and enforcement activities. We had a detailed discussion on the requirement of forces and how it can be supplemented,” said DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi briefing reporters here.
Sarangi informed that no Maoist activity has been noticed in Malkangiri for about one and a half years as their committee has withdrawn them to Bastar.
“There is a three-week gap between elections in Chhattisgarh and ours, so Maoists may try to enter Odisha during this period and in order to stop that we will continue with our operations. Our operational forces and operational plan are ready. Our SPs are very competent and they can stall it. Since Maoist activity is a problem we need cooperation from all especially people,” said Sarangi.
The DGP further informed that he also had discussions with the BSF deployed in the Swabhiman Anchal.
He said that for the first-time people in Swabhiman Anchal will be casting their votes in their own area.
Polling booths have been established at various places in the rural areas of Swabhiman Anchal, he added.
The DGP was accompanied by Director Intelligence Soumendra Priyadarshi, ADG Law & Order Sanjay Kumar, ADG Operations Dev Datta Singh, and DIG SIW Vishal Singh during his visit.
