Bhubaneswar: The Forest Department arrested six poachers who hunted regularly in the Similipal forest, with the help of Artificial Intelligence.
Four of the accused have been identified as Santosh Bhakta (28), Biswanath Bhakta (25), Simnath Bhakta (30) and Santosh Bhakta (50).
According to the Forest Department, high-power AI-enabled trap cameras have been installed at various places in the Similipal sanctuary to protect wildlife. On the basis of these trap cameras, six poachers have been arrested in Boniada village under Udala police station in Mayurbhanj district. The accused were arrested on the basis of the photos captured by the AI cameras installed in the forest.
The Forest Department said that four of the arrested accused have been produced before the Baripada SDJM court. They have been taken on two-day remand. During interrogation, five country-made guns along with a large quantity of gunpowder and iron pellets were seized from them. So far, a total of six guns, along with various illegal items, have been recovered.
The investigation into the case is underway, the Similipal Tiger Reserve officials said.
