Bhubaneswar: Local residents spotted the carcass of a tusker lying in the Karadabani-Beruabadi area under the Tilisingi section of Ghumusar (north) Forest Division in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Sunday morning.

The villagers spotted the ailing elephant moving near a creek in the forest on Saturday and informed the Forest Department officials. According to reports, the Forest Department staff visited the spot and observed the movements of the animal. Though they confirmed that the tusker had been ailing0 for several days they reportedly did not attend to the animal.

Before its death, the pachyderm was seen roaming near a creek on Saturday. Some inhabitants of Beruabadi village alleged that the Forest officials were reluctant to provide medical aid to the pachyderm.

The autopsy of the dead tusker will be undertaken on Monday.
