Bhubaneswar: A tusker died while undergoing treatment at Khesara forest of Banki Range under K Balanga police limits in Sundargarh district, on Wednesday.
Initially, the ailing tusker was seen roaming in the localities under Koida Range. Later it was seen moving around Banki Range, sources said.
Locals informed Forest Department officials after the condition of the pachyderm was worsened. Upon being informed, the department traced the animal and tranquillised it before starting its treatment. However, the ailing animal succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment on Wednesday.
The department officials buried the animal after post-mortem.
The exact reason behind the death of the animal can be ascertained after post-mortem report comes, forest department sources revealed.
