Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Speaker Surama Padhy has convened an all-party meeting today to ensure smooth conduct of House proceedings.
The meeting is scheduled for today, a day before the Monsoon Session commences tomorrow, September 22. Speaker Padhy has sought cooperation from both the ruling and Opposition members for the orderly functioning of the House.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Leader of Opposition, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, Opposition chief whip and whips of different parties are likely to attend the meeting.
The Monsoon Session will begin on Tuesday and is scheduled to continue till October 3. Most of the days have been earmarked for official business, while Friday, September 26 has been set aside for Private Members’ Business including Bills and Resolutions.
Meanwhile, political parties are chalking out strategies for the session. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will hold its legislature party strategy meeting at 5 pm today, while the Congress Legislature Party will meet tomorrow morning. The Opposition is likely to corner the government on several issues, including the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, alleged printing errors in school textbooks, and the law and order situation in the state.
In view of the session, security has been tightened in and around the Assembly premises. As many as 36 platoons of police force along with over 150 police officers will be deployed.
