Bhubaneswar: All schools from Class I to XII in seven blocks of Mayurbhanj district will remain closed today in view of the heavy rainfall forecast.
As per the order issued by the Mayurbhanj District Education Officer (DEO), schools in Thakurmunda, Kaptipada, Udala, Gopabandhunagar, Khunta, Barasahi and Betnoti blocks will remain closed. All government, government-aided and private schools in these blocks will remain shut.
The decision has been taken in view of the heavy rainfall forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).The IMD has issued an orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Nawarangpur on September 26.
Similarly, a yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
The IMD regional centre further said the depression over South Odisha and adjoining South Chhattisgarh is very likely to continue to move north-northwestwards and maintain its intensity during the next 12 hours and weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area during the subsequent 12 hours.
