Bhubaneswar: All government and private schools as well as Anganwadi centres in Mayurbhanj district will remain closed on Monday, July 27, due to heavy rain prediction, Mayurbhanj Collector has announced.
The decision was taken in view of the India Meteorological Department’s red alert for the district. The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj as a depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify.
The closure order applies to students from Class 1 to Class 12 in both government and private schools, along with all Anganwadi centres in the district. Authorities said the step has been taken as a precautionary measure for the safety of students amid the weather warning.
However, all headmasters, headmistresses, principals and teachers have been directed to attend their respective schools as usual. They will disseminate information regarding the closure to students and parents/guardians through available communication channels, including class WhatsApp groups, phone calls and SMS, to ensure no student comes to school.
Earlier in the day, the Jagatsinghpur Collector had also ordered closure of all government and private schools in the district on Monday due to heavy rain forecast. District administrations have advised people to stay indoors and avoid low-lying areas during the period of intense rainfall.
