Bhubaneswar: Andhra Pradesh has revised the schedule for panchayat elections amid the ongoing border dispute with Odisha over Kotia, rescheduling polling from November 3 to November 5 and vote counting to November 7.
The revised schedule has brought the Kotia issue back into focus in Odisha, with political activity intensifying over Andhra Pradesh’s election-related moves in the disputed border region.
Teams from the BJD and BJP have visited Kotia in recent days to assess the situation. A Congress fact-finding team also toured the region on Tuesday at the direction of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Charan Das.
During the visit, the team interacted with local residents and gathered information on the ground situation, problems faced by people in the border area and Andhra Pradesh’s election-related activities.
Andhra Pradesh’s decision to revise the polling dates has further fuelled political discussions in Odisha over the long-standing Kotia border dispute.
