Bhubaneswar: On the basis of a complaint by one Suresh Prasad Singh pertaining to a fraud over phone/UPI, Banarpal police apprehended the prime accused from Deoghar in Jharkhand. The accused identified as Tulasi Das who fronted as the employee of an UPI platform and and duped Singh of Rs 29,900.
He had sent some documents on victim’s whatsapp showing fake Aadhar Card, PAN Card and fake PhonePe Identity card. After gaining confidence of the victim, he asked for some details from victim and after that a sum of Rs 29,900 was deducted from victim’s Bank Account. Based on this report, an FIR was registered, the police said.
“During the Course of investigation, fraudster’s number location was traced back to Deoghar, Jharkhand. Following the money trail, it was found that money was being transferred to a person named Tulsi Das in Deoghar, Jharkhand through 2 bank accounts,” a police official said.
After collecting all information about Tulsi Das through OSINT (Open-Source Intelligence) and bank records, Angul Police planned to conduct a raid at Deoghar. On June 22, a police team comprising of Rohit Verma, IPS including SI Satish Kumar Lenka, Assistant Driver Jitendra Sahoo, Constables Sarojit Das and Narendra Pradhan conducted a raid at Deoghar and successfully apprehended the accused Tulsi Das.
It was found that Tulsi Das was using the same fraudster’s number from which call came to the victim. Several other phones, Credit/Debit Cards and bank passbooks were seized from accused. There are transactions of approximately Rs 7 to 8 lakh in his various bank accounts in last two months.
“This money has been illegally acquired by him through cyber frauds. Accused was brought to Banarpal police station and then produced in the court of JMFC on Thursday. Further investigation in the case is underway,” the police added.
