Sambalpur: Armed robbers broke into an officer of Manappuram Gold Loan at Budharaja Main Road in Odisha’s Sambalpur on Friday and decamped with gold jewellery and cash after holding the employees and customers hostage at gunpoint.
According to reports, the armed robbers decamped with around 30 kg gold worth crores of rupees. The daylight robbery has triggered panic and apprehension among the people and business community in the region. At the same time, it has raised concern over the security of business establishments and their owners.
Around 10 robbers with firearms and sharp-edged weapons looted the Manappuram Gold Loan office, while some of them reportedly stood guard outside the building.
While senior police officials reached the spot after being informed of the heist, the police have launched an investigation into the crime. The local police are scanning the CCTV footage in the area and interrogating the employees and customers present there at the time of the heist to collect evidence. The police have increased patrols and urged local residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
