Sarpanch’s Wife Dies In Fire Mishap; Sarpanch Sustains Severe Burns

Boudh: A woman was burnt to death after she caught fire while cooking at Purunakatak in Boudh district, on Friday. The fire mishap also left her husband critically injured.

The deceased, Bisnupriya Meher, was a school teacher, while her husband, Sribant Meher, is the sarpanch of Banibhusanpur panchayat.

According to reports, the incident occurred when Bisnupriya was busy cooking in the kitchen. Sribant, who rushed to rescue his wife after listening to her screams, also suffered severe burns.

Bisnupriya died on the spot, while Sribant was first rushed to the Purunakatak Community Health Centre and later shifted to the Boudh District Headquarters Hospital. Due to his critical condition, he was further referred to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident and have sent the body for post-mortem.
