Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Tuesday apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police, Narasingha Dora of B. Singhpur Police Station in Koraput district, and a private individual, Sunadhara Amanatya, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a complainant.
According to Vigilance officials, Dora, who was investigating a domestic violence case, had allegedly demanded the bribe to extend undue favour to the complainant. The ASI reportedly threatened that unless the money was paid, he would take strong action against those involved in the case.
Unable to bear the pressure, the complainant approached Odisha Vigilance authorities, following which a trap was laid. The Vigilance team caught Dora and Amanatya red-handed while accepting the ₹40,000 bribe from the complainant.
The entire bribe amount was recovered and seized from their possession. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to ASI Dora on the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
In this connection, Koraput Vigilance Police Station Case No. 33/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered against both accused persons. The investigation is currently in progress.
