Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday directed Commissionerate of Police to take action in connection with the death of Bhubaneswar-based aspiring model Soumya Ranjan Panigrahi.
The family members of Panigrahi had protested in Bhubaneswar on Monday alleging inaction by police in the case. The bereaved family members staged a dharna outside the DCP’s office alleging that the police was not taking any action in this matter.
The family had moved the High Court alleging police inaction over the death of the youth. The High Court in its order on Wednesday directed Bhubaneswar DCP to take action in this case within 3 weeks.
The youth allegedly committed suicide at his residence in the city over a failed love affair. A suicide note, found in Soumya’s room after his death on January 30, mentioned that he resorted to the extreme step after being betrayed by his girlfriend.
In the note, Soumya also allowed to donate his body organs post his death. Following the death of Soumyaranjan, some photographs of the couple and phone conversations with the girl and her mother made rounds on social media.
The Infocity police has registered a case in this case of suicide which took place at Kalarahanga area of the Capital City in January. The deceased’s family has blamed his girlfriend for the death. “The police have seized two mobile phones used by Soumya Ranjan but no progress in the case so far. After repeated appeals before the police we were forced to move the High Court for justice,” the deceased’s family members said.
