Baripada (Mayurbhanj): The Baripada Sadar Police on Monday detained the Assistant Engineer of Shamakhunta Block on charges of sexually assaulting students of Bhanjabhumi Sanskrit Vidyalaya at Shamakhunta in Mayurbhanj district.
The accused has been identified as Prashant Kumar Senapati.
According to the Head Pandit of Bhanjabhumi Sanskrit Vidyalaya, Sebati Mohanta, the incident took place on Sunday. In the morning, the assistant engineer had visited the school to inspect the construction work of the toilet. Later in the evening, he reportedly returned to the hostel when the cook was preparing food and the warden had gone to Baripada market for some work.
“At that time, when the hostel students were locking the entrance gate, the assistant engineer entered the hostel again and sexually assaulted the students,” alleged Mohanta.
Following the incident, the Head Pandit lodged a complaint at the Baripada Sadar Police Station. Acting on the complaint, police detained the accused engineer for questioning.
The Head Pandit has demanded strict action against the accused. Meanwhile, police said that further investigation into the matter is underway.
