Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths on Saturday arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Odisha Police while taking a bribe from a complainant to settle a case filed against in Cuttack.
The accused ASI, Alok Sarangi, was posted at Bhadreswar Police Station in Cuttack district.
According to sources, Sarangi had allegedly demanded money from the complainant to relax Sections in the case lodged against him. The complainant informed the Vigilance officials in this regard following which a trap was laid to catch him red-handedly.
As per the plan, Sarangi was caught while taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 from the complainant on the police station premises. Later, simultaneous searches were carried out at three locations linked to the ASI from a disproportionate assets (DA) case angle.
The Cuttack Vigilance has registered a case under Section 7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018.
