Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the birth centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid rich tributes to the legendary statesman, describing him as a leader beyond party lines and a timeless inspiration for generations.
Speaking at the Atal Pratibha Samman–2025 event organized by Atal Yuvashakti, Odisha at Jaydev Bhawan, the Chief Minister said, “Atalji was not merely a politician; he was an emotion in the hearts of millions. His contribution to India’s development—be it in roads, railways, education, or industry—ushered in a new era for Odisha and the nation.”
CM Majhi lauded the commemorative publication ‘Yugjanma Atal’, calling it a reflection of Atalji’s life, vision, and patriotism. “This is not just a memoir. It is a pathfinder that will guide the youth and the nation toward principled leadership and unwavering dedication to the country,” he said.
Describing Vajpayee as a statesman who transcended politics, the Chief Minister recalled, “Even his fiercest critics admired him, calling him ‘the right man in the wrong party.’ He was a symbol of truth, justice, and nationalism—respected by all, irrespective of political affiliations.”
Majhi emphasized Atalji’s unwavering belief in the youth, stating that they are not just the future but the moral force and agents of change in today’s India. “Following Atalji’s ideals of education, organization, and patriotism can create a transformative Odisha and India,” he noted, adding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership reflects the spirit of Atalji through initiatives like ‘Operation Sindoor’, showcasing the balance between national security and development.
Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling called Vajpayee’s philosophy a “complete institution”, while Industry and Skill Development Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said, “Atal Bihari Vajpayee is not just a name but a philosophy.”
As part of the celebrations, the Chief Minister conferred the Atal Samman 2025 awards to individuals who have excelled in various fields and brought glory to Odisha and the nation. Eminent awardees included: Dr. Pratibha Ray – Atal Shrestha Odia Ratna; Samir Mahanty – Atal Mitra Ratna; Debaprasad Dash – Atal Sahitya Ratna; and Debashish Mahanty – Atal Khel Ratna. Others were also felicitated for their achievements across literature, sports, administration, and social work.
The program was presided over by Atal Yuvashakti President Bikash Kumar Padhi, who delivered the welcome address. Balasore MLA Manas Kumar Datta proposed the vote of thanks.
