Baripada: In a shocking incident, a newborn baby boy was allegedly stolen from Mayurbhanj District Headquarter Hospital.
According to reports, Dhanai Hansda, a resident of Ranibhol village under Baripada Sadar police station, called an ambulance to take his wife Phulmani Soren, to the hospital the previous day after she complained of labour pain. However, she gave birth to a baby boy on the way to the hospital. Later, she was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Baripada at 5 am.
Meanwhile, an unknown woman who was present at the hospital started mingling with Dhanai and his wife. At around 6 am today, the woman reportedly called out to Dhanai, asking him to come and apply to avail financial assistance provided by government for the delivery. When Dhanai went with the baby to apply, the woman allegedly took advantage of the situation and took the baby from Dhanai and disappeared.
After failing to find the baby, the family members have lodged a complaint with the Baripada Town police, who have launched an investigation into the matter.
While the stolen child’s mother claimed that her husband took the baby somewhere and abandoned him, her husband accused the unknown woman of stealing the baby.
Meanwhile, police are trying to identify the unknown woman and recover the stolen baby.
