Balangir: A police constable, Jyoti Pradhan, has been suspended from service after allegedly assaulting his wife, Nupur Biswal, leaving her critically injured.
Balangir SP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo issued the suspension order on Friday following an investigation into the incident.
According to reports, the assault occurred on the evening of December 8 when Jyoti and Nupur, both constables in the Reserve Police in Balangir town, were returning home on their motorcycle.
As they neared their village, Samara under the Tusura police station, the couple engaged in a heated argument.
Jyoti stopped the bike by the roadside, where his friend, Jagannath Pradhan, was present. Upon explaining the issue to Jagannath, the latter reportedly grabbed Nupur’s hair and assaulted her. Jyoti then joined in the attack.
Nupur’s cries for help drew the attention of villagers working in nearby farmland. As they rushed to intervene, Jyoti and Jagannath fled the scene on the motorcycle.
Nupur is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Balangir.
While police have apprehended Jagannath, Jyoti remains at large. Efforts are ongoing to locate him.
