Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on motorcycle thefts, Bhadrak Town police arrested five persons, including a minor, in connection with multiple bike thefts in Bhadrak district.
According to the police, on March 2, a man visiting a local hospital with his wife had his motorcycle stolen while parking outside the premises. The victim immediately filed a virtual complaint, which prompted a police investigation.
During the probe, the alleged mastermind of the gang, Abinash Barik, was apprehended. Following detailed interrogation, he revealed the involvement of three associates and a minor. Police recovered 15 stolen motorcycles from their possession.
Police are now verifying the bikes with their registered owners and once the process is complete, the vehicles will be returned. The accused are scheduled to be produced in court today.
