Bhubaneswar: Following incessant rainfall in neighbouring Jharkhand and some districts in Odisha, major rivers have swollen, prompting a flood alert for Balasore district.
The district administration has been placed on high alert, and evacuation efforts are underway in low-lying areas to ensure public safety.
Meanwhile, the Odisha government has issued a flood alert for Balasore district due to the swelling of rivers, including the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka.
As of 5 am today, the Subarnarekha River at Rajghat is flowing at 11.24 meters, exceeding the danger level of 10.36 meters. The Budhabalanga River at Govindpur is steady at 7.28 meters, while the Jalaka River at Mathani is receding at 6.95 meters, still above the danger level of 6.5 meters.
The district administration has initiated evacuation measures to ensure public safety. Besides, the State Flood Cell is closely monitoring the situation, working round-the-clock to mitigate the flood threat.
Also, the Odisha Water Resources Department has issued a statement warning of rising water levels in major rivers, including the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka, due to incessant rainfall in Jharkhand and the state’s Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts. The State Flood Cell is functioning round-the-clock, closely monitoring the situation to respond to any potential flood threats.
According to sources, the Collector of Balasore has been alerted to expedite evacuation and relief operations in affected areas. The administration is taking proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the impending flood, and residents in vulnerable regions are advised to remain cautious and follow official advisories.
