Balasore: Subarnarekha River has breached its danger mark, inundating vast areas of Baliapal, Bhograi, and Jaleswar blocks in the Balasore district. The river’s water level has risen to 11.55 meters, surpassing the danger mark of 10.36 meters.
According to reports, Madhupura, Bisanupur, Asti, Jamkunda villages under Baliapal block have been inundated, forcing residents to use boats and makeshift rafts to commute. The main road connecting Choudhurikuda and Kudamansingh has also been submerged under 4 feet of water.
The Jalaka River is also flowing above the danger mark, affecting 10 panchayats in the Basta block and three panchayats under the Sadar block.
District Collector, Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas, visited the flood-affected areas yesterday and discussed measures to tackle the situation with local administrators and representatives.
Relief efforts are underway, with ODRF, NDRF teams, and fire services personnel deployed in the area. Power boats have been arranged to facilitate communication.
The district administration has initiated emergency repairs to damaged embankments.
It may be mentioned that keeping the rising water level of Subarnarekha in mind, a review meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Odisha Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management Suresh Pujari on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by the Special Relief Commissioner, EIC (DoWR), Chief Fire Services Officer, Senior Officers of the SRC Office, and OSDIMA. The District Collectors of Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Jajpur and Sundargarh districts joined the meeting through video conferencing.
