Balasore Temple Theft Cases Cracked: 7 Arrested With Recovery Of Theft Articles

Balasore: Police claimed to have cracked various temple theft incidents in the district.

A special police team led by sadar SDPO investigated all the cases registered in different police stations in Balasore.

During investigation, seven accused were arrested who were involved in different temple theft cases in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts.

All the accused belong to Mayurbhanj district, Balasore SP Sagarika Nath said.
Police first managed to arrest four from chandipur area. They were remanded to policy custody. During interrogation, they revealed others involvement.

Accordingly, police arrested three others, the SP added.

Various theft articles were recovered from them. The value of seized articles is estimated to be over Rs 6 lakh.

The gang used to steal silver ornaments including brass idols from various temples in Mayurbhanch and Balasore districts. Among them, three thieves were stealing jewelery from shrines while three others were engaged in selling them.

The cyber team and the district police had been searching for them for a long time. Finally, they managed to nab them.

Out of a total of 19 temple theft cases, 80 percent of the theft items have been recovered. The remaining six temple theft cases are under investigation, the SP said. In the past few months, temple ornaments were stolen from temples in various places in the district including Jaleswar, Singla, Kamarda, Rupsa, Soro, Nilagiri areas. Further investigation is going on in this incident.

“We will call the officials and servitors of varius temples and conduct TI parade before handing over the articles to respective shrines”, she said at a press meet.
