Baleshwar: A police officer was injured after being allegedly attacked by family members of an accused while attempting to make an arrest in Kachuapada village under Baliapal police limits in Baleshwar district on Thursday.
The injured officer has been identified as Baliapal Police Station IIC Salakhen Murmu. He reportedly sustained injuries to his head and chest during the incident and was provided medical treatment.
According to police sources, a complaint had been lodged at Baliapal Police Station on Wednesday against Shiv Kumar Jena of Kachuapada village. Acting on the complaint, IIC Murmu, accompanied by a police team, reached the accused’s residence on Thursday morning to take further action.
When the police attempted to arrest Shiv Kumar Jena’s son, Uttam Jena, his family members allegedly resisted the move. During the confrontation, Uttam’s wife and son reportedly attacked the police officer, leaving him seriously injured.
Following the incident, additional police personnel were deployed in Kachuapada village to maintain law and order and prevent any further untoward situation.
Police have launched an investigation into the attack and are taking steps to identify and apprehend those involved in the assault on the officer. Further details are awaited.
