Phulbani: In a shocking incident from Kandhamal district, a young woman from the Baliguda police station area was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by three men over a period of seven days. The accused have been arrested and forwarded to court, police said on Monday.
Baliguda SDPO Ramendra Prasad and Investigating Officer Baliguda IIC Sambit Kumar Swain shared details of the case during a press briefing on Monday.
SDPO Prasad assured that strict action would be taken, stating that no one involved in crimes against women would be spared.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on May 11 around 11:30 AM when the woman had gone to the market to buy medicine. While returning home, an auto-rickshaw driver near Tribeni Park offered to drop her off. Instead of taking her home, he forcibly took her to a rented house and locked her inside. There, he and two other accomplices allegedly gang-raped her repeatedly over the next seven days.
The survivor managed to file a written complaint at Baliguda police station on May 17. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections related to gang-rape. All three accused were arrested, their medical examinations were conducted, and the auto-rickshaw used in the crime was seized.
