Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha witnessed very heavy to heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours, with Banki in Cuttack district recording the highest rainfall in the state.
According to the data released by the Meteorological Centre of Bhubaneswar at 8:30 am on Monday, Banki received 192.0 mm of rain, followed by Athagarh in Cuttack with 174.0 mm.
The IMD report stated that very heavy rainfall was recorded at four stations across the state. Apart from Banki and Athagarh in Cuttack, Sonepur district headquarters recorded 135.0 mm and Kendrapada (Pto) recorded 133.0 mm.
Heavy rainfall was reported from 14 other stations. Khairmal in Boudh received 108.0 mm, Jatni in Khurda recorded 97.0 mm, and Rajnagar in Kendrapada registered 96.0 mm.
Other areas that received significant rainfall include Mundali in Cuttack with 78.2 mm, Satyabadi in Puri with 78.0 mm, Kantamal in Boudh with 75.0 mm, and Agalpur in Bolangir and Ullunda in Sonepur with 74.0 mm each. Salebhatta in Bolangir recorded 73.4 mm, Gop in Puri received 72.0 mm, and Deogaon in Bolangir recorded 70.0 mm. Dunguripali in Sonepur registered 69.0 mm, while Barapali in Baragarh and Binika in Sonepur both recorded 68.0 mm of rainfall.
The intense rain has been attributed to the prevailing low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, which has been triggering widespread showers across coastal and interior Odisha.
With water levels in rivers and reservoirs rising, the IMD has urged people in vulnerable and low-lying areas to remain cautious. Authorities have also advised commuters to take care while travelling on wet roads and to keep track of further weather updates.
