Bhubaneswar: The prime accused in the alleged abduction and assault of a woman in Bargarh has been arrested.
Rakesh Dandsena, the key accused, was arrested by police near Titilagarh railway station, according to Police IG (Northern Range) Himanshu Lal.
Police will brief details regarding the incident at a press conference on Wednesday.
On Monday, police arrested three other accused in connection with the case: Sarjan Dansana, Jayakrushna Dansana, and Prahallad Dash, who were forwarded to court.
A local organization, Bargarh Sachetan Nagarika Mancha, observed a 12-hour bandh to protest police “inaction” in the alleged abduction. The victim, who attended the Dhanu Yatra on January 12, went missing, and her family filed a complaint at the Bargarh Town police station. She was rescued from Kurla forest under Bargarh rural police station after 36 hours.
The woman was initially taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bargarh and later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences And Research (VIMSAR), Burla.
VIMSAR Superintendent Prof Lalmohan Nayak stated that the woman was not sexually assaulted.
