Baripada: The Additional District and Sessions Judge (2) Court in Baripada on Friday sentenced a man to seven years of imprisonment in connection with the death of his wife.
The verdict was pronounced by Judge Suman Kumar Mishra after examining witness testimonies and the investigation report.
The convict, Bapi Bindhani (35) of Situṇḍi village under Betanati Police Station limits, was found guilty of killing his wife, Mina Kisku, following a domestic dispute earlier this year.
According to the prosecution, Mina, who was Bapi’s second wife, had been residing with him in Baripada. However, frequent quarrels had reportedly strained their relationship, and Bapi often subjected her to physical and mental harassment.
On February 8, 2024, Mina complained of a severe headache and asked her husband to take her to the hospital. Instead, he allegedly verbally abused her. Later that night, while she was preparing tea outside their home, Bapi allegedly dragged her inside and assaulted her brutally, leading to her death on the spot.
The next morning, Mina’s mother and daughter discovered her body inside the house and lodged a written complaint at the Baripada Town Police Station.
Acting on the complaint, the police arrested Bapi and produced him before the court.
After months of trial, the court convicted Bapi and sentenced him to seven years’ rigorous imprisonment. The case was prosecuted by Additional Public Prosecutor Bajendra Mohanty.
