As per reports, a devastating fire broke out at the PRM Medical College in Baripada on August 18, 2023. As panic set in and people scrambled to save their lives, Dr Bhandari, a renowned gynaecologist and obstetrician, stood tall amidst the chaos. With her unwavering commitment to saving lives, she chose to stay behind and perform an emergency surgery on a critical pregnant woman.
As the fire alarm blared and flames engulfed the hospital, Dr Bhandari sprang into action. Amid chaos, she remained steadfast, prioritizing the lives of her patients. A new mother, still awaiting stitches after a safe delivery, and her newborn, lay vulnerable in the face of danger.
Without hesitation, the lady doctor swiftly relocated the fragile duo to a safer haven, shielding them from the encroaching inferno. Her swift decision-making and unwavering dedication to her patients’ well-being proved instrumental in saving two precious lives.
The Jeevan Raksha Padak 2024 recognition is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her patients and her profession.
She said “I genuinely believe that any doctor in my place would have done the same thing I did. It’s simply a part of who we are as medical professionals. We’ve taken an oath to prioritize our patients’ lives, and that’s exactly what I did. I don’t think I’ve done anything extraordinary – I’ve just fulfilled my duty as a doctor. My life, like that of my fellow doctors, is dedicated to serving our patients, and that’s what drives us to make selfless decisions, even in the most challenging situations.”
