Mayurbhanj: An elderly person was seriously injured after being attacked by a bear at Khumathana village under Thakuramunda block in Mayurbhanj district, on Wednesday morning.

The victim, identified as Hemanth Nayak (50), suffered severe injuries to his head, right hand, and leg.

According to eyewitnesses, Hemanth was attacked by the bear while he was bathing in the river. Locals rushed to his aid and chased the bear away. He was rescued and taken to Thakuramunda Community Health Centre for treatment.

As his condition deteriorated, Hemanth was later referred to the Sub-Divisional Hospital. His condition is currently being monitored by doctors.

As Hemanth is a BPL cardholder, locals have appealed to the district administration to provide him with financial aid to cover his medical expenses.
