Bhubaneswar: The Bolangir district police headquarters has issued a show cause notice to the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Titilagarh MLA Naveen Jain following the latter’s act of firing blank shots during the Ram Navami procession on Friday.

The incident occurred at Shastri Square and later at Old Bank Square in Titilagarh, where the MLA was seen publicly firing a gun into the air in the presence of his bodyguards and police personnel.

A video showing Jain holding the gun in a dramatic, cinematic style went viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism. In the video, the MLA is seen repeatedly firing blank shots while his bodyguard was visibly assisting him during the act.

When questioned about the incident, MLA Naveen Jain claimed that it was a toy gun and that he fired the shots only to motivate and encourage the participants in the procession.

The district police has initiated action against the PSO for failing to prevent the MLA from indulging in such a risky act in a crowded public place. Further inquiry is underway to determine whether any legal provisions were violated.

The incident has sparked debate over the responsible use of firearms and security protocols during public events.
