Koraput: Panic gripped Guneipada area under Lamtaput block in Koraput district after a huge bear was spotted roaming inside a school premises and nearby villages.
As per reports, some people spotted the animal sleeping on the school verandah. For nearly an hour, the bear roamed around the school’s kitchen and playground. Later, with the help of locals, the bear was chased away towards the forest.
Locals said that when people shout, the bear moved into the forest but returned towards the village again in the evening.
Fortunately, the bear has not caused any harm. It is being heard that it is a pet bear.
However, the incident has created fear among parents.
Meanwhile, villagers alleged that wild animals frequently enter the premises as there is no boundary wall around the school.
Reacting to the incident, the headmaster said, “The children are safe. We will inform the forest department and the administration in writing.
On being contacted, the Lamtaput Forest Range Officer said that their team has been sent to the spot and the problem will be resolved very soon.
