Bhubaneswar: A 24-year-old beautician was allegedly abducted and murdered in Sambalpur district, with police arresting the prime accused and recovering the victim’s body from a forest.
The deceased has been identified as Sarita Sa (24), a resident of Kusumi Mahulaguda village under Mahulapali police limits. She was employed at a beauty parlour in Kuchinda town.
According to police, Sarita went missing during the Rath Yatra celebrations in Kuchinda on July 16. Following her disappearance, her family lodged a missing complaint with the police, prompting an investigation.
During the probe, police detained the prime accused, Anil Pruseth of Kundaposi village, for questioning. During interrogation, Pruseth allegedly confessed to abducting Sarita in a car, murdering her, and disposing of her body in the Badarama forest under Jamankira police limits.
Acting on the accused’s statement, police recovered the victim’s body from the forest and sent it for postmortem examination.
“The victim’s body has been recovered and sent for postmortem. The postmortem report will reveal the exact cause of her death. Our investigation is continuing to ascertain the motive behind the crime,” a police officer said.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and the motive behind the alleged murder.
