Bhubaneswar: One person died and 25 others sustained injuries after being stung by a swarm of bees at Hariharpur village under Chhendipada police station in Angul district.
The deceased has been identified as Dr Bipin Pradhan, a retired veterinarian. Pradhan, who had been residing in Kosala village for a long time, had gone to Hariharpur to attend a village meeting.
As per reports, while the village meeting was underway on the school premises yesterday evening, a bird attacked the beehive, breaking it apart. As a result, the bees swarmed everywhere, attacking over 25 people who were attending the meeting in the school premises, with Bipin being stung by multiple bees. As a result, Bipin was severely injured.
Locals immediately rushed him to the Kaniha Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was later referred to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital. However, he succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, residents have demanded immediate destruction of the beehive.
