Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested Banamali Satpathy, OAS, Executive Officer of Belaguntha NAC, Ganjam district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a staffer.
According to a release issued by the Odisha Vigilance, the accused was apprehended on October 8, 2025, at Balipadar Bus Stop while taking the bribe from the employee. The bribe was allegedly demanded for relieving him on his transfer and for releasing his arrear salary and Last Pay Certificate (LPC).
The employee, unable to secure these documents without paying the bribe, approached the Vigilance authorities who accordingly laid a trap to apprehend Satpathy.
During the operation, the entire bribe amount of Rs. 25,000 was recovered from the possession of Satpathy. Searches are currently underway at three locations linked to the accused to investigate potential disproportionate assets.
A case has been registered at Berhampur Vigilance PS (Case No. 14/2025) under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is currently in progress.
