Bhubaneswar: A series of bomb hurlings shook at Belanta village under Tigiria police limits in Cuttack district last night, leaving residents in a state of panic.
According to sources, around 10 bombs were hurled at various locations in the village, causing widespread fear among the villagers. Previous dispute between two groups is slated to be the reason behind bomb hurling.
As per report, a long-standing feud between two groups erupted into a violent clash last night, with both sides indulging in bomb hurling. However, no casualties were reported.
Upon being informed, a police team led by Athagarh Sub-Divisional Police Officer reached the spot and tried to restore peace in the village.
Earlier, a clash broke out between the two groups at the village during Holi celebrations. The scuffle had left five persons injured including the husband of the village Sarpanch and her brother-in-law. After a brief lull, both the groups again indulged in a fight.
Following the incident, villagers got terrified and did not feel safe to come out of their homes. Tigiria police began an investigation into the incident. Police forces have been deployed in the village to avoid any untoward incident.
Though no casualties were reported in last night’s incident, the situation is being closely monitored to ensure the safety of the villagers.
