Bhubaneswar: Two sons of a couple, who died in a freak mishap at Palasuni Square in Bhubaneswar on May 8, have set an example by donating the eyes of their parents to a private hospital here.

Paying respect to their last wish, the bereaved sons decided to donate their parents’ eyes. Though traumatised by the loss of their parents, both the sons did not stop themselves from fulfilling their last wish.

“It was one of the wishes of our parents. So, we decided to donate their eyes to fulfil their wish. It was a small tribute to our parents”, said both the sons.

According to reports, the fatal accident occurred when Umesh Panigrahi and his wife Nalini (62) were crossing the road. Suddenly, a speeding truck ran over the woman killing her on the spot. Even as the mutilated body of Nalini was found lying on the road at the accident site, the truck dragged Umesh’s body for nearly a km towards Satya Vihar in the capital city. He too succumbed to his injuries.

It is pertinent to note that the deceased couple hailed from Anandapur under Biramaharajpur sub-division of Subarnapur district. They were going to Puri to mark their 39th wedding anniversary when the accident took place.
