Bhubaneswar: The ‘Bharat Taxi’ service is likely to be launched soon in Odisha, with the state government taking steps to implement the cooperative-based cab service across major cities.
Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta informed the Odisha Assembly in a written reply that the state government is preparing to implement the initiative launched by the Union Ministry of Cooperation on February 5, 2026.
He said necessary legal and administrative measures are currently being undertaken for introducing the service in Odisha.
A high-level meeting was held by the Cooperation Ministry in March to examine the operational framework of Bharat Taxi, including the role of cooperative societies in providing the service and its practical implementation.
The detailed policy and operational framework for Odisha is currently under consideration at the departmental level, the minister said.
Once the formalities are completed, Bharat Taxi is expected to commence operations in major cities of the state, offering passengers an affordable and safe transport option while providing an organised platform for drivers.
