Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, 16 CCTV cameras have been installed at Bharatpur police station which faced widespread outrage for not having CCTV cameras installed there.
The cameras have been placed both inside and outside the police station to ensure transparency and accountability. Plans are afoot to install nine more CCTV cameras, said sources.
It is worthwhile to mention that this move comes after the police station was embroiled in a controversy surrounding the alleged misbehaviour of an Indian Army official and his fiancée.
It is pertinent to mention that the Orissa High Court on Monday expressed its displeasure after coming to know that 57 police stations out of 650 police stations in the state have no CCTV cameras. To ensure transparency, the directed the ADG to submit a status report on CCTV cameras at police stations across the state
The Court had directed the Additional Director General (Modernization) to submit a report on the status of CCTV installations in police stations across the state. The court’s intervention led to the swift installation of cameras at Bharatpur Police Station
