Bhubaneswar: In welcome news for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, the world-famous Bhitarkanika National Park has been reopened for both domestic and foreign tourists from today.
According to reports, the park remains closed every year for three months from May 1 to July 31 to facilitate the crocodile breeding season. During this period, entry of tourists is strictly prohibited to ensure undisturbed nesting and breeding of saltwater crocodiles. During these months, female saltwater crocodiles turn aggressive while guarding their nests along the creeks and riverbanks. To avoid any untoward incidents and to protect both wildlife and visitors, the forest department restricts entry into the park during this period.
With the breeding season coming to an end today, all tourist facilities including boat services, watch towers and entry gates will resume normal operations.
Tourists wishing to enter the park are required to carry valid identity proof, which has been made mandatory for entry.
