Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar will get a new terminal, which is a part of the mega expansion plans at the airport to meet the requirements of domestic and international air travellers over the next decade.
Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, who reviewed the BPIA on Friday, said that the airport will get permission for a new terminal and construction work will be completed within two years.
According to Naidu, the current capacity of Terminal I at Bhubaneswar airport is around 40 lakh domestic and international passengers per year while 50 lakh passengers are using it already. Therefore, it is necessary to increase its capacity to 80 lakh passengers per year. Permissions will be granted for the new terminal in one month and the new terminal will be constructed in the next two years.
Naidu also informed that already a lot of small works including passenger amenities are underway and it will be completed within a month. The existing ILS (Instrument Landing System) CAT I will be upgraded to CAT II within a month.
