Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police have arrested the accused in the Bhubaneswar assistant professor rape case.
The accused identified as Umesh Sudhakar was arrested in Chhattisgarh by Khandagiri police. He will be brought to Bhubaneswar tomorrow, police sources said.
An assistant professor of a private institute here who is a resident of Raipur in Chhattisgarh had filed a complaint at Karib Nagar police station in Raipur on May 24 alleging that she was raped and blackmailed by the accused.
Later, as the place of occurrence of the crime was under the jurisdiction of Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar, Chhattisgarh police had transferred the case to Khandagiri police here.
Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh had on May 30 informed that as per the victim’s report she has alleged that while she was studying in Chhattisgarh she knew a batch mate of hers who while on a visit to Bhubaneswar had invited her to a hotel and after spiking her drink with intoxicants had raped her.
The accused had allegedly demanded money from the victim, Singh had further said.
Khandagiri police had registered an FIR under sections 376, 506 and 384 of the IPC in this connection.
The DCP had informed that Khandagiri police had formed a team to nab the accused.
