Bhubaneswar: A day after the firing incident in Sisupalgarh, Bhubaneswar witnessed another firing on Friday, raising serious questions over the law and order situation in the capital city.
One youth was shot dead at point-blank range on Bomikhal overbridge under Laxmisagar police station limits. The deceased has been identified as Sonu Nayak of Haladipadia.
According to police sources, Sonu was on his way to Rasulgarh petrol pump to refuel his vehicle with four of his friends when unidentified miscreants intercepted him on the overbridge and fired at his head from close range. The assailants reportedly fled the spot immediately after the crime.
It is learnt that the firing incident took place at around 3 PM. Police suspect that Sonu’s brother-in-law had hatched the conspiracy and executed the gruesome murder. Preliminary investigation suggests that a family dispute is the reason behind the crime.
Laxmisagar police reached the spot and started investigation. Two persons have been detained in connection with the incident and are being interrogated. Raids are underway at various places to nab the accused.
Taking serious note of the incident, Commissioner of Police and DCP visited the crime spot and took stock of the investigation. Zonal ACP and Special Squad officials are also investigating the case from all angles.
