Bhubaneswar: A special POCSO court in Bhubaneswar on Thursday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for repeatedly raping his eight-year-old daughter.
Ad hoc Additional Sessions Judge Saroj Kumar Sahoo delivered the verdict after examining 13 witnesses and reviewing 77 documents during the trial.
Along with the jail term, the convict was fined ₹5,000, with the court directing that failure to pay would invite an additional three months’ imprisonment.
The court further recommended that the District Legal Services Authority grant a compensation of ₹4 lakh to the minor survivor.
The case dates back to October 27, 2022, when the child’s mother caught her husband in the act of sexually assaulting their daughter at home.
The girl then revealed that the abuse had been taking place repeatedly. Following the mother’s complaint, Mahila police registered a case and arrested the accused.
