Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Sunday arrested a high-profile burglar and claimed that they have cracked several cases of burglaries in different parts of Bhubaneswar during the one year.
The accused has been identified as Parshuram Giri, a native of Balasore district who operated alone and usually targeted abandoned houses. Police have recovered cash to the tune of Rs 21 lakh, around 700 grams of gold ornaments, 7 kg silver ornaments, and two motorcycles from the possession of the accused, Panda said.
Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda told the media that Giri was nabbed during night blocking and checking. According to the police, the high-profile robber was involved in over 21 cases, including four in areas under the Mancheswar police limits.
Class IX failed student Giri confessed that he maintained a lavish lifestyle and stayed in 5-star hotels like the Taj when he visited other metropolises. Panda said he was arrested five times in the past and over 50 cases are registered against him.
Talking about his modus operandi, Panda said that Giri usually went barefoot during burglaries and entered locked houses by breaking windows and putting his phone on flight mode. He committed burglaries only after ascertaining that the houses were locked and nobody was present.
Despite having several properties in Bhubaneswar and his village, Giri had turned into a robber and initial investigation revealed that he only stole cash and ornaments and never targeted other valuables.
