Bhubaneswar: Most parts of Odisha reeled under searing temperatures on Friday as more than 10 places recorded temperatures above 30 degree Celsius by 8.30 am.
With the soaring temperature across Odisha for the last few days, the mercury touched 31.2°C by 8.30 am in the capital city Bhubaneswar on Friday, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional office here.
The mercury crossed 30°C in ten places in Odisha around 8.30 am. Places that have been experiencing scorching heat include Keonjhar (32.6°C), Chandbali (31.6°C), Bhubaneswar (31.2°C), Balasore (30.8°C), Jharsuguda (30.6°C), Sambalpur (30.6°C), Puri (30.4°C), Rourkela (30°C), Paradip (30°C), Hirakud (29.2°) and Gopalpur (29°C).
As per the prediction IMD, the maximum day temperature is likely to be more than 40°C at many places over the districts of Odisha and likely to be above normal by 3 to 5 degree Celsius over the districts of the state for the next couple of days.
“Due to prevailing north-westerly and westerly dry air, the maximum temperature is likely to be more than 40°C at many places over the districts and to be above 3°C to 5°C above normal at some places till April 6,” the IMD bulletin said.
Meanwhile, yellow warning for heat wave conditions has been issued for several districts which include Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Dhenkanal.
